In-brief: Microsoft announced security focused services for IoT developers using its Azure managed cloud platform.

A story over at eWeek last week highlighted a new security program aimed at Internet of Things developers who are looking to use Microsoft’s Azure IoT platform.

From the eWeek article:

Embarking on an internet of things deployment might seem like a risky proposition these days. To help customers mitigate the dangers of IoT-enabling their businesses, Microsoft on Oct. 26 launched its Security Program for Azure IoT.

Enterprises across the globe are flocking to Azure IoT, Microsoft’s suite of cloud-based internet of things services, according to Sam George, partner director of program management at Microsoft Azure IoT. The fast-growing platform is “pivotal in helping customers in their digital transformation,” he told eWEEK. “Customers are already adopting [Azure IoT] with very, very positive results.”

Microsoft is just one of the major cloud computing vendors to target services at Internet of Things start-ups and established products firms. Amazon has its own IoT focused managed cloud offering, Amazon IoT, which provides a range of services and access to Amazon products and technologies like Lambda (“serverless” computing), Kinesis (streaming) and S3 (storage) services. IBM has promised to invest heavily to create its own Internet of Things business unit, leveraging its BlueMix platform, as well.
