4 oh 4! Happy Birthday to Security Ledger

Security Ledger just turned 4!
Security Ledger just turned 4!

In-brief: Security Ledger turned four years old today! We’re saying “thanks” to all our readers and sponsors and looking forward to an exciting year in 2017 covering the intersection of security and the Internet of Things. Thanks to all who have supported our work and independent journalism!

A quick note that in the past couple days, Security Ledger quietly passed a milestone: our 4th year as a publication. Our first posts went live between October 2 and October 4th, 2012 and we’ve been going strong ever since.

I started Security Ledger because I wanted to draw attention to what I thought was an important shift in the information security space: from a focus on “computers” (for lack of a better term) to “things” – embedded devices, critical infrastructure, intelligent appliances and vehicles and clothing.

The past four years has proven that my initial hunch that the story of the Internet of Things was going to be a big deal was correct. We’ve been busy covering the breadth and depth of the problem: from cars and medical devices to nascent standards, newly emerging threats (like the recent IoT botnets) and the offerings of new, IoT focused startups.

Four years later, we’re going strong, writing for a growing audience of readers interested in the intersection between information security and the Internet of Things. We’ve also branched out to offer events as well, including the recently completed Security of Things™ Forum in Cambridge on September 22 and another in Washington D.C. on October 27th.

I haven’t made much of prior milestones because…why? I was busy writing and the 1, 2 and 3 year marks didn’t seem so important that they were worth noting. Four years feels more substantial (as will 5, most assuredly) so I wanted to say “Thanks” to all the writers and sponsors who have made the past four years a success, with a special tip of the hat to my longtime sponsors Cisco Systems and Digital Guardian!

I look forward to working with you for many years to come.

Best,

Paul F. Roberts
